Kratom is very popular today due to several reasons. On one side it is all about the wonderful benefits that one gets from Kratom. And on the other side, no one could deny the support and the controversies that surround this miraculous herb in general. Kratom does not bear any similarities with cannabis or other drugs. But the FDA and the DEA regard Kratom to have similar properties and that it is as addictive as those harmful drugs. One important thing to note is that some states have even made Kratom and cannabis legal under their jurisdiction. One such state is now the hot topic in Michigan. Even with the necessary steps to put an end to the sales of Kratom, no legislation was passed to make Kratom illegal or ban it.
Troy Police retaliates
The Troy police department shares similar views as that of the FDA and believes Kratom to be a harmful substance. The Department has even taken its huge stand to revoke the sale of Kratom all over the place. The troy Police even made an attempt to grab the attention of all people, business and outlets. A public warning was put in place to explain people about the dangers of using Kratom and also pleading the local shops to stop the sale and purchase of Kratom. The warning was publically announced in May, during the time where a local shop owner was arrested for smuggling Kraton unlawfully. But even with the warning in place, some of the shops in Michigan State sell Kratom even now. Also, some medical experts and officials keep them comments reserved in favor of the Troy police claiming the herb to be dangerous.
The FDA’s side on Kratom
FDA’s advantage is that Kratom does not have a sound scientific claim to prove that the herb could be helpful in treating pain, depression, anxiety, and other conditions. Hence, FDA tags Kratom to be dangerous and harmful thought few side effects have been reported so far. The FDA is committed to proving it to the people otherwise on Kratom just like the Troy Police. The FDA shows no interest to approve Kratom and in fact, it has even brought up a red flag on the same.
Kratom and weight loss supplements
Some people are of the notion that Kratom could help them with weight loss. Though there is no enough evidence to prove this claim, the FDA has focused on the sale and purchase of supplements associated with weight loss. In fact, in 2014, 25,000 pounds of Kratom raw materials were seized to affect a crackdown on Kratom supplements. The US Marshals were again confronted with a plea in 2016 to seize illegal Kratom shipments from the South Beloit region. The crackdown brought in 90,000 bottles of Kratom supplements which were dietary based. Instances like these are so many since the targets keep changing every month. But the estimated amount of Kratom products confiscated by the FDA would go up to $150,000.
Public Opinion
People who have used and experienced the effects of Kratom still claim that they have discovered the path to relief with the likes of Kratom products. They also feel that the FDA is avenging everyone who supports Kratom like it is some sort of personal war. Also, some people feel that the FDA is taking it so far for no good reason at all. They also oppose the Troy Police department initiative saying it was not really needed. Though some of the businesses are looking to uphold the integrity of the laws, many express their disagreement with the Troy Police Department’s warning. In their perspective, Kratom is legal in their State and they see no problem at all. Many scientists are also voicing out their concern against the ban of Kratom since they feel their research on the plant herb would face many obstacles. With all that being said, we cannot really confirm the effectiveness of Kratom without any solid scientific proof.
