A very common saying amongst Kratom users would be “Less is always much more”, you may be wondering what they mean by that? Are there any benefits of taking smaller doses? We are going to walk you through the ‘not so familiar’ positive effects of Kratom in smaller doses and we will also be walking you through the different types of dosages that we would recommend.
How exactly does Kratom work? Its uses and effects
Kratom finds its home in the South East Asian parts of the world, it also goes by the name ‘Mitragyna speciosa’. It is seen to be rich in alkaloids of different kinds and these alkaloids act on opioid receptors that are present throughout our body. When we consume Kratom these alkaloids react with these receptors and are seen to produce a wide range of beneficial effects such as:-
- Euphoria
- Pain relief
- Relaxation
- Stimulation
- Motivation
- Stress Relief
Thanks to these wide ranges of effects, people have been using it to deal with a lot of conditions and issues like chronic pain, social anxiety, depression, as well as fatigue. People that are battling alcohol or smoking or opioid addictions have also been able to use Kratom to help deal with the terrible withdrawal symptoms that come with.
What are the benefits of using low doses of Kratom?
A popular saying amongst the veterans would be that you will feel more energized at lower doses and you will feel more sedated at higher doses. People have this common misconception that because of this they might feel the jitters and it might not help you if you are looking to relax at smaller doses. However, at lower doses, you will feel less nervous and you will notice that you feel an increase in your stamina and you will be much more capable of doing your daily tasks while staying motivated. At the same time, you will also feel much calmer and composed than usual. All of this while still enjoying the pain-relieving and euphoric benefits of Kratom.
There are two factors based on which the effect that it would have on the user would depend on, this being the type and strain:-
Red Variant:
People who are looking for robust relaxing effects or people looking to be able to cope with severe anxiety, this would be the strain that we would suggest, however, we would like for you to know that for people looking to stay energized, we would suggest they opt for a lower dose.
White Variant:
People looking to feel accelerating or stimulated we would suggest the white strains. This is also the strain for people looking to feel euphoric, it is often glorified by its users for its energizing and exhilarating effects.
Green Variant:
This would be the strain for people looking to enjoy a wide range of the benefits that Kratom offers. However, it should be known that the effects the user’s experience are much milder than what they would experience when using the Red and White strains. It is suggested that people looking for an energy boost as well as an upliftment in their mood should go in for lower doses.
Being aware of how these different types and strains would impact the way you feel will help you make an educated decision on which variant would be right for you.
Managing tolerance
We explained earlier about the way the components called ‘Alkaloids’ interacted with the receptors in our body, overtime and on repeated usage, the receptors can be accustomed to dosage that you have been taking and will require that you take a higher dosage in order to feel the effects that you used to feel on lower doses, this is what we call tolerance. This occurs for two reasons mainly:-
Desensitization:
The body’s ability to respond to the active substance or molecule that is ingested, in this case; the alkaloids present.
Downregulation:
On repeated usage of a substance, the available receptors start to diminish or decrease in number.
The building of tolerance occurs over a period of time and does not happen overnight and it sometimes takes weeks or even months. You may be wondering how one builds a tolerance to Kratom?
Large doses, prolonged and more frequent use are the major causes of kratom tolerance building. In order to prevent building such tolerance, we would suggest that you stick to a smaller dose and maybe reduce the number of times a day that you consume it. Another tip we would like to suggest is alternating between variants can also help keep your tolerance levels low.
If you have a high level of tolerance you will find that you require much larger doses to notice any of the benefits and this can also end up being expensive for you because we all know that Kratom doesn’t come cheap.
However, there is nothing to worry if in case you are feeling like you have developed a tolerance to it, there is a way to reduce it. We suggest that you take a short break from Kratom, by which I mean that you stop taking your daily dosage for a period of time all the alkaloids in your body have been rid of it. You can do this gradually by slowly reducing the dosage and then finally taking a break. You may wonder how would you know when your body is free of these alkaloids? That would depend on how high your tolerance level is and once you have taken a break, you can go back to using Kratom but we would suggest sticking to lower doses in order to prevent building tolerance again.
Avoid the side effects
Kratom along with the wonderful benefits that it offers is also known to cause a fair share of side effects. A major reason for these side effects is because of consuming higher doses. These side effects are also seen to affect people that frequently consume it as well.
Dehydration
It is known to cause dehydration in the consumer, which can have parallel effects such as muscle cramps, skin damage, dry skin and sometimes even nausea. One of the reasons for Kratom causing dehydration is its diuretic effect this makes the muscles lose its liquid content. This can be avoided by controlling the dosage.
Dizziness
People have reported feeling dizzy when they consume high doses and using small doses can help avoid this aftereffect. Eating something sugary can also help battle this dizziness because it is mainly due to low blood sugar levels.
Constipation
It is known to cause your bowel movements to slow down this results in harder stools which is problematic. A good way to battle this constipation is to drink ample amounts of water and eat fibers this helps normalize your bowel movements. We would also suggest lowering your dose if you are experiencing this side effect because higher doses are known to cause constipation.
Dosages guide
We would like to suggest some low doses that can be helpful for people looking to lower their consumption:
2-3 grams: We would suggest people that are just starting off, to begin this dosage, this dosage should be ample to feel the effects.
2-4 grams: This is dosage we would suggest for individuals looking for ‘Low dosage’. The effects that one would experience for this dosage will be mild.
4-5 grams: This is the dosage we would suggest for individuals looking for ‘Moderate dosage’. The effects that are accompanied by this dose should be potent. However, we would not suggest this dosage for individuals just starting off because it can make them feel sleepy and not properly feel the benefits they would be looking for.
5 grams and above: his is the dose we would call ‘High Dose’ and can make people feel sedated and we suggest people avoid doses above 8grams.
The bottom line, we suggest our readers stick to low doses because it brings out the positive benefits while avoiding all the negative side effects.

When I have struggled with some depression after the loss of my pet, my friend recommended me to take some Kratom every morning & night. I started with the low doses only and still following the same. With a low dose, Kratom is much effective for relaxation.
I take higher doses. Not felt any positive effects yet.
Hello, RETIRED pharmacist here. Been using kratom, white Hulu, for a few months now. I take maybe 1 teaspoonful which is about 5 grams 3 times a day for chronic pain due to diabetic neuropathy and chronic headaches. Mostly I mix it in the blender with combinations of milk, chocalte, coffee and add flavorings like ginger root and cinnamon. The ginger helps with the nausea. I also add some oatmeal to the blend and this gives it a time release effect, cuts the bitter taste and minimizes constipation. Sometimes I will throw in a little fruit juice like orange or chinola to enhance absorbtion and further cut the bitter taste. 1 or 2 teaspoons of sugar can help with this also. I am still learning and experimenting and will keep you all posted.
@Michael Great that you are experimenting with different ingredients for your ‘tea’. I would suggest trying some powdered turmeric with your blend (you can buy it at any supermarket). In addition to its own health benefits, it appears to potentiate kratom, giving it more potency over a longer effective dose.
